Paint Booth
CP&A provided the structural engineering direction and services for the installation of three large paint booths capable of preparing and painting the tail fin of an airplane. CP&A organized a structural team consisting of two other engineering firms to meet the aggressive design and construction schedule. As structural lead, we directed the team's efforts in designing new booths and modifying the existing building structure to support the associated exhaust fans, ductwork and new substation.
CP&A designed the door opening drive. Since the drive involved vertical shafts and couplings, the power transmission system was designed to only fit together correctly to ensure the vertical shaft couplings properly supported the shaft. A friction clutch was utilized to prevent the door from damaging any parts during opening/closing.
