The 2001 Nisqually Earthquake severely damaged the Boeing Company’s
auditorium and cafeteria building. Many of the foundation to column base
connections were dragged down due to soil liquefaction. Some lateral
bracings were yielded and buckled.
CP&A developed a reliable and efficient repair scheme that also covered future
potential major earthquakes.
Non-Linear Time History (NLTH) analysis was used to size friction
dampers, and to simulate response for several different design earthquake
records.
